I just noticed that I must have missed putting this video up when they were just weeks old. They were so cute and full of energy whenever water time came into play. Hopefully we will be hatching some Pekins in the next few months.

Probably no goose eggs till the spring but were planning to breed the Pekins, mallards and the geese. The boy goose (Moose as we call him) is so loud! I know our neighbors have to hate us. We went to a local farm auction recently looking for some good deals for all of our animals. I think people thought we were crazy buying this giant, out of date satellite dish but we bought it for only $2.50. I simply cut a Piece of aluminum to cover the hole in the middle, screwed it together using a ton of lock tight to seal it and then dug a hole in the ground. It was way cheaper than spending $100 on a pond liner from Lowes. The ducks love it and its even easier on us. I gave it a slight tilt so we could plop a hose in it, overflowing it down the hill for an effortless cleaning. And last I buried some aquafina bottles half way in the ground out in the field by the pond, then dropped some moth balls in them. I read somewhere that moth balls are good to keep snakes away and the bottles keep our animals from eating them ; ) They like to make a mess of things more so than chickens ; ) We only have a temporary swimming tub for them until i get time to make their pond. So many projects and they grew too fast! We went to Big - R today with the intentions of just picking up some chicken feed and supplies and found they had Baby chicks, ducks, turkeys and rabbits for sale. They shouldn't be allowed to do this.. You know how hard it is to turn down something as cute as a baby duck? Needless to say we ended up leaving with two Geese and 6 baby ducks. Luckily we have all the other supplies to keep them growing. They are in our back room inside a cattle water tub with a heat lamp right now until they get old enough. They are only a week old right now so we have to keep them warm and sheltered. We surely didn't wake up thinking we were gonna have 8 new kids. :D |
